Story
“We’re taking this car to Invercargill!”
As part of the 2021 Pork Pie Charity Run, Kev and I will be driving a MINI from Paihia to Invercargill over just six days. This epic journey will test the willpower, stamina and sense of humour of our team, not to mention push our beloved vehicle to the limit.
Kev and I are doing this as a team, and my Dad and cousin Plumber Dan are also participating - so the race is on! Luckily Dad is a mechanic so hopefully he's our secret weapon. Kev does not have much experience driving on NZ roads, so I reckon he's going to end up being in the passenger seat, while I do most of the driving....
Our team name is "Sue Me" in honour of my mum Sue, who passed away earlier this year - we know she would've got a real kick out of seeing Dad and I do this together. Mum was a teacher and loved to see kids succeed which is why this is such a great charity for us to raise money for.
We are hoping the world has gone back to normal and we are able to travel from Perth - NZ, by March, but if not we have a back up team - Mel + Fraser who I think are secretly hoping we can't make it so they get to do the drive instead!
For my Aussie friends who don't understand - "Goodbye Pork Pie" is a classic kiwi cult film from the 80's, about a trio of cheeky characters that steal a mini and drive it from the top of the North Island, to the bottom of the South, getting up to all sorts of shenanigans along the way.
